Williams to Lie in State at the US Capitol

Hershel W. “Woody” Williams, the last remaining Medal of Honor recipient from World War II, will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. The veteran’s body was brought to the state capitol in Charleston to lie in state Saturday and Sunday, ahead of his memorial service on Sunday, and that’s where U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin announced that he, and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito had secured a commitment for Williams to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol in the coming weeks. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy worked with Manchin to make it happen.
