Fayette County is still struggling to cleanup from the mid-August flooding from Smithers to Gauley Bridge. Flood victims are getting help now from the National Guard and church volunteers from as far away as Alabama. The National Guard hauled away flood-ruined possessions and tons and mud left in in the streets of residential areas. WCHS TV reported more than 20 dump truck loads of debris were hauled out of Smithers. The areas hardest-hit by flash floods include Smithers, Cannelton Hollow and Scrabble Creek.
