Two massive broadband expansion projects in the area moved one step closer to reality Tuesday with the approval of $6 million in grant funding. Gov. Jim Justice announced the preliminary approval of the funding for two broadband infrastructure projects spanning Kanawha, Lincoln and Jackson counties. One project calls for Altice USA to install 538 miles of fiber infrastructure to provide broadband services to nearly 6,000 addresses in Kanawha and Jackson counties. The second project calls for about 230 miles of fiber to be installed in the Alum Creek area, which would provide broadband service to nearly 3,500 addresses in Kanawha and Lincoln counties.
