Pedestrian Safety Gets Emphasis This Fall at Marshall University

Students are back in class at Marshall University, and there’s a new emphasis on pedestrian safety. The speed limit on Third Avenue is now 25 miles per hour. The speed limit was lowered on campus at Fifth and Third Avenues over the summer as a part of a pedestrian safety study that the Division of Highways is conducting. The City of Huntington also paid to put in a new crosswalk at 20th Street to help students get across from Joan C. Edwards Stadium to the university’s recreation center. The traffic study was requested after a student was hit and killed by an SUV last year. From now until Thursday, university officials will be at the Marshall Student Center plaza giving out reflective patches for backpacks and talking to students about pedestrian safety. This will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
