Sen. Manchin Sponsors a Bill To Boost IRS Funding

The Internal Revenue Service would get a considerable infusion of cash. Under the framework of the Democratic reconciliation bill announced by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., the IRS would receive $79 billion over the next decade to ramp up staff, invest in new technology to help process tax returns and increase staff to help Americans get answers to their questions about filing. The bulk of the IRS funding under Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act would go towards enforcing current tax code, though it also touches on other issues. It would be able to improve taxpayer services, improve technology that government officials say is outdated by decades and support other basic operations.
