Multiple West Virginia Schools Receive False Threats

Multiple hoax threats about school shootings or other violence were reported Wednesday in at least a dozen counties in West Virginia, including high schools in Kanawha and Cabell. A false call at South Charleston High School prompted a heavy law enforcement response about 8 a.m. Minutes later, a false school shooting call was also reported at Huntington High School. A message from the Barboursville Police Department said the active shooter call at Huntington High School originated from out of state. South Charleston Police Chief Brad Rinehart said Fairmont Senior and Robert C. Byrd received false threat calls. Morgantown police responded about 9 a.m. Wednesday to a report of an active shooter at Morgantown High School and they determined that the call was a hoax. The state Department of Homeland Security said all of the threats were deemed not credible.
