After an intense debate on the floor of the West Virginia House of Delegates, House members passed a bill Tuesday that would allow people with concealed carry permits to carry handguns on the campuses of public colleges and universities in the state. The bill previously passed the state Senate and now goes to Governor Jim Justice. A spokesperson for West Virginia University said in a statement Tuesday that it continues to believe local control is the preferred option and still opposes the legislation. The university said it will create a Campus Safety Group to lead this and other safety efforts.
