Governor Jim Justice said a special session in a few months could be a possibility to address corrections officer pay legislation that did not make it across the finish line during the regular session. West Virginia’s correctional system is still in a state of emergency due to a staffing crisis, and the National Guard and officers with the Division of Natural Resources moved in to help fill gaps. There are more than 1,000 vacancies across the state with the Division of Corrections. Bills that would have addressed pay concerns all died in committees.
