Nearly $80,000 raised through United Way of Central West Virginia for the victims of the Regal apartment fire is set to be distributed. United Way said this week that the money was raised for residents in 32 units who lost their home in a fire that leveled the apartment building on Jan. 26. Each unit will receive $2,486 from the donation total. Distribution of the funds started Monday. United Way was one of several organizations in the region to help the families affected by the fire. It said Mountain Mission, the American Red Cross and local businesses, restaurants and churches provided clothing, household items, food and other needs following the fire. The cause of the fire was later ruled undetermined by investigators with the Charleston Fire Department. Officials said the owners of the property could face fines after alarms did not sound during the blaze.
