Another phone scam is circulating in Kanawha County

Deputies in Kanawha County are warning residents of more phone scams making the rounds, including one where a woman was instructed to meet someone claiming to be a deputy in person with $500. A woman reported being called by someone claiming to be a sergeant of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office who informed her she’d allegedly missed jury duty and owed $500 in fines. The woman was instructed to bring the payment in cash to the agency’s downtown office and stay on the line with the caller during the commute. She became suspicious and reported it. Anyone who receives any suspicious calls or believes they may have been scammed can call the sheriff’s office at 304-357-0169.
