The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department hosted a “Tick Talk” this week to warn about the dangers of tick borne illnesses. One of the biggest concerns, according to Kanawha Health Officer Dr. Steven Eshenaur, is Lyme disease. Cases continue to climb each year in Kanawha County. In 2022, there were 3,073. There are already 414 so far this year.Deer ticks are the most common in the state and that these are the type that can be carrying Lyme. Any insect repellant containing DEET is effective repelling them.
