An attorney representing the town of Chapmanville addressed speculation surrounding a police K-9 missing for more than two months. Eyewitness News reported that attorney Rob Kuenzel reiterated the investigation is being handled by the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and that there’s no evidence that the K-9’s disappearance did not occur in Chapmanville. Chapmanville K-9 Chase disappeared from his handler’s residence in South Charleston on April 11. He said the town of Chapmanville is awaiting the decision from the prosecutor’s office before it takes any action regarding suing the K-9’s handler to recover the cost of the dog. He said a civil suit may be considered at a later date. The K-9’s handler has since been let go from the police department. No charges have yet been filed in the case.
