Coal company fined for misrepresenting coal dust levels

Black Diamond Coal Company and a certified dust examiner are guilty of misrepresenting coal dust levels in a Floyd County, Kentucky mine. Mine safety regulators found the company’s continuous personal dust monitor running on the surface of the mine in a first aid trailer. The monitor is meant to be worn by miners underground. Black Diamond is on two years’ probation and was ordered to pay a 200-thousand-dollar fine.
