Dr. Rahul Gupta comes back to Charleston to talk about new drug dangers

The nation’s drug czar, Dr. Rahul Gupta, who was once the health officer for Kanawha County and the state, stopped in Charleston on Friday as a part of his tour across West Virginia. Following a roundtable at Thomas Health, Gupta met with the city’s CARE Team to talk about their efforts to help with issues like substance use and homelessness. Eyewitness News reported that Gupta said one of the biggest threats and priorities right now across the U.S. and emerging in West Virginia is xylazine, an animal tranquilizer now found in combination with fentanyl.
