The fire department pulled a Dunbar man out of a sinkhole in his yard after utility companies were working on it. John Ratliff was stuck in his yards for 30 minutes and got out of the hole with assistance from the fire department. Eyewitness News said this all happened as the fiber optic company, SecureNet, was installing cables in a Dunbar neighborhood and hit a main water line. West Virginia American Water responded to the line break, leaving behind a dirt patch on the corner of Ratliff’s yard. Ratliff was trying to take pictures of the yard at about 11 p.m. Monday night when he fell into the sinkhole.
