Suspect who shot State Police trooper is arraigned in Mingo County

A man has been charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of a West Virginia State Police trooper. Timothy D. Kennedy was arraigned Saturday morning by Mingo County Magistrate Jim Harvey on the capital offense that carries a possible penalty of life in prison, if convicted. He is accused of shooting and killing Sgt. Cory Maynard Friday night as he responded to a shooting complaint with two other troopers in the 4200 block of Beech Creek Drive. The motive for the shooting is unknown. More than 100 law enforcement officers from around the area converged on Beech Creek to locate Kennedy.
