Wayne County Sheriff Rick Thompson said this week that his office has received reports that scammers are calling residents and identifying themselves as law enforcement officers, and then they ask the resident to pay a fine for missed court appearances. It’s an ongoing scam that has popped up again, in Wayne County at least. Officers will never call and ask for money. If you think you’ve been a victim, contact the sheriff’s office to report it.
