Suspect nearly runs over deputy after a Logan County shoplifting incident

An officer responding to a reported shoplifting incident in Logan County was nearly run over by the suspect before he fired two shots, deputies said. The incident happened Tuesday morning at the Advance Auto Parts in Chapmanville. Deputies said a Chapmanville police officer was attempting to turn the suspect’s car off by reaching through the window when he was allegedly dragged on to Route 10. The suspect is accused of attempting to run over the deputy, who jumped aside and fired two shots, apparently hitting the suspect once. Deputies said the suspect was taken to a Huntington area hospital. A female passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody.
