A civil lawsuit is pending, connected to the death of Michael Scott Jr., who was fatally injured while in police custody in 2022. The city of Dunbar has agreed to pay the family $2 million and the amount includes attorney fees, costs, expenses, and funeral and medical bills. A civil complaint filed in September 2022 claims Scott was denied medical treatment while in custody, and suffered blunt force injuries to the head. No criminal charges have been filed against the officers involved and they’re still employed by the Dunbar Police Department.
