A federal judge on this week approved a multi-million dollar settlement for the family of Michael Scott Jr., who was fatally injured while in police custody in June of 2022. Court records show that the city of Dunbar agreed to pay the family of Michael Scott Jr. $2 million following his death, and Judge Irene C. Berger of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia approved the settlement on Tuesday. A civil complaint claims Scott was denied medical treatment. No criminal charges have been filed against the officers involved and both are still employed at the Dunbar Police Dept.
