Petition to ‘Save Coonskin Park’ has thousands of signatures

More than 6,500 people have signed a petition asking the Federal Aviation Administration, Kanawha County Commission, and the Parks and Recreation Department to oppose the Yeager Airport runway expansion. The group of Kanawha County citizens, called Save Coonskin Park, are taking action against mountaintop removal at Coonskin Park. The project, as proposed right now, would flatten the upper part of the park. In June, Yeager told Eyewitness News that this project would satisfy the airport’s long-term needs, but no definitive plans have been made. The deadline to sign their petition is today.
