DEP investigates sinkholes threatening a woman’s home

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protections is investigating sinkholes that are inching toward a woman’s home in Kanawha County. Eyewitness News said it started as a large hole in Regina’s Cordell’s backyard in Pratt, and over the past month, rainfall has led the hole to grow significantly, forming a drop-off slope behind her mobile home and causing it to lean. The DEP released a statement saying the investigation found that the sinkhole appears to have been caused due to a failure or separation of a culvert and is not mining or industry related. The WVDEP is continuing to investigate to determine the cause and get the appropriate agency involved.
