Woman faces charges forallegedly defrauding disaster relief organizations

A woman wanted for allegedly defrauding disaster relief organizations following recent flooding in eastern Kanawha County has been taken into custody.
Brittany Hackney of Sissonville was arrested in Jackson County. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said the West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and the American Red Cross provided $2,000 in goods and services to Hackney after she claimed her Cabin Creek home was damaged after Aug 28 flooding. Detectives said no structures exist at the address provided by Hackney.Hotel, food and baby care item were also provided to Hackney. She’s currently being held on a $2500 bond.
