City of Charleston announces funding for several projects

Charleston City Council approved funding for several projects at its meeting Monday night. Council members approved $5 million in funding for the Capital Sports Center, $1 million for the Public Safety Center, $350,000 for turf for the North Charleston Community Center and $200,000 for HVAC and roof repairs at the Kanawha City Community Center. They also approved $400,000 in funding for demolition projects and $350,000 to convert city-owned streetlights to LEDs.
Mayor Goodwin said the money will come from the unassigned fund balance and credited the city’s fiscal responsibility and an increase in development and events in the area for the money.
