A grand jury in Berkeley County handed down a 41-count indictment Friday against a former deputy clerk. Melissa Beavers is accused of stealing more than $272,000 from October 2019 to December 2022, according to a news release from the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office. The auditor’s office began investigating after being alerted by the new Berkeley County Clerk Tony Petrucci. Beavers was indicted on several charges and will be arraigned on Nov. 7.
