Local lawmaker calls for a review of CPS after two children found locked in a barn

West Virginia State Sen. Mike Stuart of Kanawha County called for a full review by an independent party of Child Protective Services regarding the Sissonville case where two children were found locked in a barn. A news release from Stuart’s office said he further called for a full review for the Department of Health and Human Resources and the Agency to provide full disclosure and transparency. Earlier this month, Kanawha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Cheyenne Lane in Sissonville and found a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, locked inside a 20×14-foot room in a shed. Investigators said the children had no way to exit the building, no running water, no bathroom and had been deprived of food. According to the news release, CPS had been notified multiple times about the situation.
