One of the parents accused in a case where two teenagers were found locked in a Sissonville barn had her request for a lower bond denied Monday.Jeanne Jay Whitefeather is considered a potential flight risk, according to the judge. Whitefeather’s brother, Mark Hughes, testified in her defense, saying he allegedly found a key inside the barn that unlocked the door from the inside and that the room was a “hang out” spot for the teenagers. Hughes said there was no furniture in the shed or home because the family was planning to move to the Beckley area.
Prosecutors objected to lowering the bond citing the poor condition of the teens.
Whitefeather and Donald Ray Lantz, the adoptive parents of the children, were charged with felony gross child neglect creating a substantial risk of injury. The pair remain held on $200,000 bond each.
