Medal of Honor recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams and Gold Star Families were honored on Monday with the dedication of a new monument. The Woody Williams Gold Star Families Memorial Monument was unveiled October 2, on what would have been Williams’ 100th birthday, in Huntington’s Memorial Park. The War Memorial Arch is nearby, on Memorial Boulevard at the 11th Avenue intersection.
Williams was the last surviving World War II veteran to have received the Medal of Honor. The Southside Preservation and Enhancement Alliance helped establish the monument, in coordination with the Woody Williams Foundation.
