Clay County students do well in national competition to prevent violence

The US Department of Homeland Security is co-sponsoring a competition among schools to see who can come up with the best plan to prevent school violence. It is a program in partnership with the McCain Institute, EdVenture Group, Marshall University and Arizona State University. The 11th and 12th grade students participating in the contest at Clay High are a part of the group Generation Connect. They’re up against 38 other schools. The students have already advanced to the next level in the Invent to Prevent contest, after presenting their pitch to the Department of Homeland Security. The next round of judging is in December. If the students take part in that competition, they will travel to Washington, D.C. in January.
