Hampshire County Schools have six months to make improvements

The West Virginia Board of Education has declared a state of emergency in Hampshire County Schools. The order came Wednesday after the school system was found not to have made sufficient progress in its special education services. A review began in September due to a lack of progress on an improvement plan. The state also found three additional areas that need improvement: county administrative practices, information on individualized education plans, and access to curriculum. State Superintendent Michele Blatt will appoint coordinators to handle onsite improvement efforts and progress will have to be made within six months or the state may consider additional action.
