If you have received a green and white piece of paper from a third-party company called American Water Resources, it is not a scam despite the timing of receiving it. The piece of paper was sent to many throughout the area, including the residents on the West Side of Charleston who are affected by the gas outage. The company said it partners with West Virginia American Water to offer insurance programs to their customers like the one detailed in the mailer. Eyewitness News asked the company if the timing of the mailers have anything to do with the West Side gas outage and their spokesperson said planning for the company’s campaigns are done two to three months in advance ahead of when they arrive in mailboxes. The spokesperson also said the timing of this campaign is “purely coincidental.”
