Putnam County’s chief humane officer and animal shelter director has resigned three months after being hired to the role. Jon Rutherford, who was named to the position in August, submitted his resignation effective Nov. 22, according to Putnam County Manager Jeremy Young. Young said Rutherford spent time at the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Control Shelter as well as the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office prior to joining the Putnam County Animal Shelter. Rutherford resigned from the position for another job out of the area. Tthe county will be accepting applications for a new director soon.
