Resources are available to those impacted by West Side gas crisis

Crews with Moutaineer Gas have been working all week on a flooded gas line that caused a natural gas outage on Charleston’s West Side. A spokesperson said this week that 46 miles of gas line flooded and water has to be completely removed before service can be fully restored. About 1,000 customers are affected, and many of them also lost water service at the beginning of the outage, but that’s been restored. The crisis caused Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School to close for the rest of the week. Those affected can pick up toiletry items from the American Red Cross, and showers are available at the MLK Community Center and North Charleston Community Center. Manna Meal, West Virginia Health Right, and the West Virginia Black Pride Foundation are distributing food.
