Marching bands who perform Metallica songs are part of a contest with the band and the public can vote for their favorite performances. Winning bands will receive musical equipment for their school programs. There are separate competitions for Division 1 and Division 2 college bands, and different categories based on the size of the high school. There are also fan favorite categories. Nominated schools from West Virginia include: Jefferson High School (Shenandoah Junction, WV); Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School (Point Pleasant, WV); University High School (Morgantown, WV); Marshall University (Huntington, WV); and West Virginia University (Morgantown, WV).
