State Police Trooper’s alleged killer is denied bond

The man accused of shooting and killing a West Virginia State Police trooper in Mingo County has been denied bond. Timothy Kennedy of Matewan is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Sgt. Cory Maynard in June. Shawn Bayliss, Kennedy’s attorney, asked the judge to set bond with a condition of home confinement. Kennedy has not been indicted in the case. The murder charge was bound over from magistrate court about a week following his arrest. In denying bond, the judge cited Kennedy’s history as it relates to some forms of mental illness and that created reservations. More court dates are pending.
