New round of funds will help schools with renovations

A historic amount of funding was approved this week to build new schools and renovate existing ones in West Virginia. Gov. Jim Justice, as chairman of the West Virginia School Building Authority, approved more than $111 million to 19 counties for the 2024 fiscal year. The funding, the largest award amount by the SBA since 2011, will be used to build 10 new schools and perform renovations on 13 existing schools across the state. Inflation forced the SBA to hike its construction square footage cost allowance nearly 50% in October. Jackson, Mason, Logan, and Calhoun county school districts were a part of the funding for renovations. Fifteen other counties will also receive funding for construction and renovations, including Greenbrier.
