The House Education Committee has given the green light to two bills that aim to increase teacher salaries. The first bill is House Bill 4767 and is all about teacher pay. This bill wants to increase the starting salary for teachers with a Bachelor’s degree to $44,000 with a pay increase each year.House Bill 4202 wants to give school service staff a raise of $670 every month. Both bills must now be approved by the House Finance Committee. The leader of the American Federation of Teachers-West Virginia feels the pay raise is needed because teachers and support staff are in short supply.
