Some Kanawha County Parks employees are owed back wages

Federal investigators reported $27,000 in back wages and damages have been recovered for employees with Kanawha County Parks and Recreation who were denied overtime pay. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found seven seasonal employees were paid hourly wages, despite working more than 40 hours in a week. The department also found the employer failed to report compensatory time for 17 year-round employees. Investigators said the actions violated the Fair Labor Standards Act, resulting in $5,234 in back wages paid to nine workers at Big Bend Golf Course and $8,405 paid to 15 workers at Coonskin Park. The division offers a search tool for those that may be owed back wages.
