State regulators have approved a $15 million revenue bump, or an 8% increase in rates for West Virginia American Water customers. The rate increase went into effect Saturday and will translate to the average monthly bill going up by $5.69 per month for water and $5.59 per month for sewage, according to a news release from the West Virginia Public Service Commission. The water company filed for a 22.5% rate increase in May for a total revenue boost of $41.2 million which was later adjusted to a 24% increase ($43 million revenue boost) after the PSC allocated a portion of sewer costs to water operations.
