Locals and visitors will be able to watch the herd in the Tomblin Wildlife Management, which continues to grow. The 127-member herd added 17 elk in January and there are plans to transport in 23 new elk this month. Gov. Justice said in a press release that the new facility will include an elevated platform for elk viewing alongside a 2,000-square-foot visitor center which will play a crucial role in ongoing efforts to restore and manage elk populations in West Virginia. Construction on the visitor center and viewing platform are scheduled to begin this spring, and Gov. Justice’s office said the anticipated opening will be in 2025.
