State officials confirmed a female inmate at Southern Regional Jail died after being found unresponsive in her cell Thursday. The 19-year-old was taken to Beckley ARH hospital, according to a statement from the West Virginia Department of Commerce. The statement said life-saving measures proved to be unsuccessful and the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. The death remains under investigation by West Virginia State Police and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
