Izak Surface case moves to a grand jury

A Charleston police detective testified that a murder suspect admitted he strangled and beat a woman to death with a vase. Lora Farley of Charleston was found dead inside a home in the 1600 block of Chandler Drive on Jan. 18. Police said they immediately determined Izak Surface of Charleston as a person of interest. Det. Dalton Holcomb testified during a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court that Surface confessed to the crime after his arrest. After striking her with a vase, she was laying on the ground and he got on top of her and used his hands to choke her until she was unconscious and eventually quit moving, according to the detective. Magistrate Leslie Grace found there was probable cause to send the case to circuit court to be heard by a grand jury. Surface is being held at the South Central Regional Jail without bond.
