West Virginia’s stocking of trout in rivers and streams could be in trouble. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service did not extend a vital funding grant. This grant was used to fill rivers and streams with trout. Governor Jim Justice warned that this funding cut is a big concern. Several rivers and streams in the state will no longer receive trout. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service believes stocking trout could negatively affect the candy darter fish, a species in danger of extinction. Not all creeks and rivers in the state will be affected. Some will be stocked until April, then stocking will stop. Governor Justice and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources asked for a grant. However, this request was turned down.
