State’s trout stocking program could be in jeopardy

Trout stocking in four West Virginia streams is likely over, according to Gov. Jim Justice. The governor said this week he was informed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that the state can no longer use funding from a $19 million federal grant to stock trout in four streams because the fish are attacking endangered species in the waterways. The four streams impacted are Camp Creek, Laurel Creek of the Cherry River, North Fork of Cherry River, and Pinnacle Creek. The governor said several other rivers throughout the state will have to go on a modified stocking schedule.
