West Virginia’s newest therapy dog will provide a boost to students at Sherman High School in Boone County. Captain, a Golden Retriever, is the latest helpful hound assigned to public schools in the Friends with Paws program, according to state officials.Nearly two dozen dogs now provide comfort and support to students around the Mountain State by relieving anxiety and breaking down social barriers. Therapy dogs are placed in schools where students are disproportionately affected by issues such as poverty and substance abuse.
