Demolition is underway for a decommissioned building on Marshall University’s campus. Crews began tearing down Laidley Hall last week, which was built in 1937. It was closed in 2016 when it was determined to have limited renovation potential. Eyewitness News said the demolition project is expected to take about a month, weather permitting. Another older residence hall on campus, Holderby Hall, is scheduled for demolition in the summer of 2025. The university said it plans to turn the site of Laidley Hall into a green space and build an apartment-style residence hall on the site of Holderby Hall. The two buildings are among the oldest on campus. Old Main, the university’s distinctive and iconic administrative building, is the oldest facility, dating back to the late 1860s.
