Baltimore bridge collapse impacts West Virginia coal exports

The collapse of Baltimore’s Key Bridge could affect a quarter of the nation’s coal exports, including a share of West Virginia coal going overseas. Most coal exports from the northern West Virginia reach the Port of Baltimore by rail and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said it could be weeks before the channel is clear. West Virginia Coal Association president Chris Hamilton expects the collapse to significantly impact the industry as crews work to clear a path for shipping. Alternate routes to ports that are more costly and time-consuming.
