Two popular Kanawha County restaurants abruptly closed last weekend. The Chop House, known for its steaks and upscale options, has been in business more than two decades while Tidewater Grill had been a capital city staple for nearly 40 years, specializing in surf and turf. Several employees said on social media that the restaurants closed without notifying staff. Eyewitness News said other businesses in the Kanawha Valley reached out to offer jobs to affected workers.
