The damage from Tuesday’s storms is still being assessed. An elementary school in southern Ohio was damaged so badly that it is not expected to open for the foreseeable future. Plans are being made to move students at Fairland West Elementary School to temporary buildings beginning next week. No injuries were reported in the incident as the district was not in session this week for spring break. Hayes said students will also not report Monday to allow teachers time to set up the new classrooms. The school, which is located in Proctorville, had part of its roof blown away during severe winds Tuesday. An historic building dating back to the late 1800s was among the structures damaged during severe storms Tuesday in Nicholas County. The Irish Corner One Room School, which was relocated to Nicholas County Veterans Memorial Park as a museum and housed local history, books and records, was damaged, and officials aren’t sure yet if it can be saved. There was also damage to the baseball and softball fields at the park. Gov. Jim Justice has declared a state of emergency for Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln and Nicholas counties due to Tuesday’s storms.
