Special foam that firefighters were using to put out an underground mine fire expanded in the Tupper Creek area near Sissonville over the weekend. According to the WV DEP, the foam was being used to put out an underground mine fire at an abandoned site near Blue Creek Friday evening, and the foam was later found in parts of Wolfpen Branch, Tupper Creek and the Pocatalico River. A news release from the DEP said that there appears to have been no observed impacts to local aquatic life. They’re continuing to clean up the foam and monitor the situation.
